The 1989 IIHF World Championships Pool D were held in Belgium. This was the second IIHF tournament for New Zealand after playing in Pool D at the 1987 World Championships. John Dowman played in four games, scoring one goal for the Kiwis. New Zealand was heavily outmatched in the tournament scoring only 3 goals for and allowing an astonishing 96 goals against in only four games. Their worst loss came at the hands of the Romanians who beat New Zealand 52-1. This jersey was obtained directly from John Dowman.
