The captain of Italy at the 1992 World Juniors Pool C, Markus Brunner, was one of the first Italian born players to play in the Ontario Hockey League. Having joined the Oshawa Generals the previous year, Brunner played alongside future NHL superstar Eric Lindros. The 1992 U20 tournament was played in front of a home crowd in Rome, with the Italians winning their first round games beating South Korea 8-1 and Greece 13-0. In the final round, Italy beat Denmark 5-2 and Great Britain 4-3 and thus gained promotion to Pool B for the 1992 World Juniors.
